Avalon surf pennant flag - 29th Street beach, (The pier) Avalon NJ was the main surf break in town from the 1970's - 2000's. Sure there is 12th St. and North, but 29th Street was the surf culture in Avalon.
Locals such as McCorristin, Salveson,Peddle, Garofalo, the Tracy, Cummings & Gilday brothers. With Shop names like; Ocean Toad, New Dawn Surf Shop, Fineline and New Vision Surf Shop brought the lastest design to this NJ surf mecca. Our line was from the Avalon Theater to the pier and in those 3 blocks was some of the best surfing exhibited in NJ. Surfers from up and down the coast would come to surf this spot. NorEasters provided the Lefts and South swells were the Rights. High tide was classic shorebreak and low tide was sandbar.
